Progressive technology is often seen as a destructive force in regards to traditional family values and relationships. Yesterday, I heard a wonderful way that a daughter was using technology to help her mother with Alzheimer’s.
This daughter visits her mother daily in a local nursing home. Due to her mother’s Alzheimer’s, she has difficulty remembering things and people. Quite thoughtfully, her daughter has been using an IPAD to show photos and videos to her mother in the nursing home. When she talks about her children with her mother, and some confusion appears, the daughter jogs her mother’s memory by showing videos or photos. Suddenly, the light of recognition comes back on, and her mother’s heart is warmed by continuing the conversation about her grandchildren. What a wonderful idea. What a wonderful daughter.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box on how to jog a loved one’s memory. I hope this post helps those of you that are encountering similar situations.
